Some may have seen this one already, but because of my love for the grounds the party is held on, I will repost. No RSVP.

MSTKRFT
Robot.tech comes at us with a worthy remix off of the new album from MSTRKRFT. On a different note, I’m having extreme issues with trying to put a schedule together for this week at SXSW. Everytime I look at the schedule and I run, like the wind. It’s a bit intimidating this year. I may just wing it, or perhaps just try to do it at the airport tomorrow morning.

And the winner of best use with the smallest amount of space goes to (drumroll), Cut Copy ! The Cutters made it their night with the exceptional use of samples, lighting, and nonstop beats. The crowded house was so ecstatic, being cramped was an afterthought. Or even the sad state of the nation was an afterthought. For one night, all was forgotten. Nobody cared about how bad things were on the stock market. For the first time in a long time, I let all my worries go (Hakuna Matata playing) and watched as a fan. The night evolved into a massive sweaty spot hit after hit. I didn’t think that the guys had it in them to top the show at the Larimer Lounge last time around, but they came damn close. The euphoric evening put forth by my favorite Aussies collapsed the house when they played Lights and Music as part of their encore , preceded by their debut hit, Future.

Matt & Kim
::: Matt & Kim
::: Bluebird Theater
::: 03.15.09
There’s always a spectacle when Matt & Kim come to town. That even happens when I’ve seen them out of town. The duo make lots of ruckus for there only being two on stage. Judging by the crowd frenzy , mass stomping, and fist pumping, you would have sworn there were at least ten on stage, or perhaps a pack of wild dogs. The duo is riding high on the release of their Fader Label debut, Grand. The album has moved a lot of units, all things considered. What was even more surprising is that the house was packed when the openers hit the stage. Matt made note of that by mentioning a simple thanks to the sweaty tight pant wearing kids. The high energy show peaked during a cover of sorts. The duo played the triumphant intro to the Europe classic, The Final Countdown. They cut off midway to play their last song, but the duo made a successful return to Denver and gave big ups to the art/concert kids, Rhinoceropolis.
Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan will be releasing his first recorded album since 2006 titled, Together Through Life, April 28th. This marks the artists 46th album, and I’m sure when it’s all said and done, he probably has another 46 in the can just waiting to be released.
::: Hillbilly Prom
|
The Denver folk will be bringing a prom unlike any prom that you went to in high school. As if you needed any incentive going to see These United States, but really? There will be a Hillbilly Prom. This means you can wear that tuxedo shirt you’ve been putting off for such a long time, or that cake dress you call a prom dress with bad makeup, bright red lipstick, and fluffed hair (compliments of Aqua Net). We hope to see you there! BTW, The Lurleens are not meant to be trifled with. About The Lurleens:
Lurleens ruled the charts during the ‘60s and ‘70s, racking up over 70 hits as a solo artist and a duet partner.
With an impoverished upbringing, a devoted yet troubled marriage, chronic illness and exhaustion due to her hectic pace, and several tragedies through the years, Lurleen’s own life often provided the grist for her popular tunes. Her best-selling 1976 autobiography, Coal Miner’s Daughter, was made into a hit Oscar-winning film starring Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones.

Franz Ferdinand
I’m not sure that there most recent album hit fans as much as they wanted it to, and I’m kind of indifferent. It wasn’t their best to date, nor their worst, just kind of in the middle. It had its moments. The video for the following song below was one of the gems from the album, and the guys are wearing leather jackets in the video. I know, new stuff, huh?!

St. Vincent
Texas songstress, Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), will be releasing her forthcoming album, Actor, via 4AD. In anticipation of her album, she will be doing a monster tour that brings her to town and she will also be doing the rounds at SXSW.
