Miranda Lee Richards

Photobucket

Miranda‘s latest album, Light of X, is hazy beauty. She was mentored by a member of Metallica, played with the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, and her music is best compared to 70’s AM delicate singer-songwriter nurtured by Tapestries or Blue. Richard’s album is out now via Netwerk and she will be on KCRW today!

Circlesquare

Photobucket

The news of a new Juan Maclean album is good news, but this new remix that he did for Circlesquare has his signature written all over the track! The new remix comes from an EP for Cirlesquare where Ed Banger’s Mickey Moonlight does the other remix duties. The tracks comes from the full length, Songs About Dancing And Drugs. Kind of familiar, no?

Peaches

Photobucket

Peaches will be making her return to Denver! I last mentioned the War Child compilation a couple of months ago, but I can’t stop and believe how much of a wonderful job they did at compiling the album. Do yourself a favor and purchase one, it’s for a good cause! You can purchase one here. The reason I mention the compilation, is because Peaches contributes one of the best songs on the album (I like Beck’s cover of Dylan).

I love angsty female lead bands. I especially like smart ones, and ones that combine some of my favorite elements of music. This might be a stretch, but lead singer Ann Yu belts out the tunes as if Cedric Bixler-Zavala were a female. She’s that good. Something else that you may have not know about the band is that they’re from Las Vegas (now reside in SF), friends with the Killers, and they use to share the same rehearsal space. Here’s to hoping lightning strikes twice. You can catch the San Franciscans at SXSW!

This show came up over at the Malkmus messageboard (thanks guys) and I couldn’t help getting all nostalgic. Here’s where things come full circle. Some of those Phish heads (they keep track of everything, like as if it were a precursor to something) said that before they went on, the house music was playing Folk Jam. Let’s hope they’re on to something. At the time, the band was promoting Terror Twilight. An album produced by Radiohead bff, Nigel Godrich.

Devo

Photobucket

Devo will be doing the SXSW thing this year (playing only one show) and also be playing ATP in the UK. Even, better news, they will be releasing a new album this Fall. I remember back in the day that this old Fred Savage show on NBC used, Working on a Coalmine as its theme song. Needless to say, the show lasted a whole season.

The Watchmen

Photobucket

A parallel universe where Tricky Dick gets re-elected more than twice and a Vietnam war that ends in a US victory. It’s all such a haze, how did we get here? A poor cast, weak story lines, and several attempts at beautiful irony fail miserably. The movie revolves around the character flaws of masked superheroes living in a past where the line of Good vs. Evil was easily distinguishable. I’m all about having random acts of violence and gratuitous scenes of nudity, but they didn’t fit well into the movie and seemed forced. Did I mention that we sprung the extra dough on the Imax version? Yeah, not very happy. The beginning montage of the group of Watchmen being cast out by society visa vie the Bob Dylan classic , The Times They Are A-Changin’, was the most engaging part of the movie. The rest of the movie used horrible choices in scenes depicting a certain time frame (i.e. KC and the Sunshine Band), and All Along the Watchtower at the end, I don’t get it.
