The effort behind creating a follow-up to a debut album is one that no electronic artist could handle without being categorized as a “sophomore slump.”
After all, it took Jamie xx nine years to create In Waves, his follow-up to In Colour. The release staved off ravenous fans and proved to be a worthy successor. It’s an album that doesn’t instantly hook you but grows on you over time with all of the guest spots.
Much like the album, the live show builds slowly. Last night, Jamie xx reeled in the crowd immediately with his latest euphoric single, “Dream Night,” which captured the smoky sunset in all its splendor. Based on previous setlists, one of the best players in the game is doing a remarkable job of bringing a good mix of heat to the decks.
