Tilian ::: Marquis Theater ::: 09.23.18

Tilian, whose third solo studio album release is just around the corner, had a crowd of dedicated fans in the Marquis Theatre grooving to the beat for the length of his performance Sunday night. This solo endeavor which began a short five years ago was on full display. Opening the night with the ever so catchy Heartfelt from his 2015 release Perfect Enemy and then incorporating songs from his debut Material Me like Ghost and Waste My Time. These songs were brought to life by a very talented backing band in Andrew Michael Wells(Guitar), Michael Franzino (Bass), and Matthew Mingus (Drums). Two of which Tilian plays within Dance Gavin Dance (Wells and Mingus) and has toured with Franzino (A Lot Like Birds. Sianvar.) on numerous occasions in the past. The years of comradery were clear on stage as they all seemed to work well with each other and put on a killer of a show. The openers for the night were no slouches either putting on stellar performances as well. Locals Innerspace a self-described Alternative/ Progressive rock act started the night with a short yet punchy set that incorporated a healthy dosage of keys and interesting guitar effects. Sunsleepfollowed up with a set of melodic pop tunes from their debut EP vaguely reminiscent of Too Close to Touch. With a perfect mix of catchiness, a strong rhythm section, and an even stronger vocalist, I ’d keep an eye on these for what they release in the future. Lastly, two vastly different veterans Andrès and Royal Coda took the stage. No matter the differences between the artists, the crowd seemed to take to them in a similar fashion. While singer-songwriter Andrès Aparicio got the crowd moving with dance songs and his eccentric personality. Royal Coda blitz the crowd with a frenzy of grooves, hard-hitting drums, and passionate belting. Royal Coda is comprised of Sergio Medina (Guitar), Joseph Arrington (Drums), Kurt Travis (Vocals) but has included Thomas Erak (Guitar) of The Fall of Troy and Jason Ellis (bass) who’s contributed to numerous records within the scene. Tilian”s newest album will be available September 28th be sure to check it out along with the many talented artist and musicians from this tours line-up.
