I hadn’t thought of Future Islands in what seems like forever. They kind of got lost in the shuffle of the We Are Scientists lot and this snippet from their forthcoming album, “On the Water,” out via Thrill Jockey Oct 11 has left me yearning for more. The new record is said to have been made while vocalist Samuel T. Herring, bassist William Cashion and keyboardist Gerrit Welmers lived together listeing to “Rumours” religiously while putting the new album together. Nothing bad has ever come from listening to the masterpiece and the single, “Balance,” further reinforces that notion.
