Now, Now. & Foxing. @ Gothic Theatre. 05.22.19

Wednesday night offered two wildly contrasting performances to an eager crowd within the walls of the Gothic Theatre. On one hand, “indie” rockers, Foxing, brought to the table an incredibly powerful performance that showcased their versatility as a group. On the other hand, Now, Now, joyfully powered through a microphone malfunction to provide a relatively upbeat performance as the shows closer. However, both acts, equally, entranced and enthused those in attendance on a rather uneventful Wednesday night; Managing to be transparent about their gratitude along the way.

Nearly six years and three albums were on full display for Foxing as they passionately referenced each of their albums during the run time of their set. Obviously, they showcase newly crafted songs from their 2018 release Nearer My God such as Grand Paradise, which served as the opening and Heartbeats with its orchestral intro serving as a well-timed change of pace in their set. They do make time for beloved tracks from their debut though in the emotive yet deceptively groovy track The Medic and nearly bringing the house down with Rory. Their sophomore release is given a chance to shine as well too as The Magdalene seemed to elicit an emphatic reaction when its beginning riff was played. Throughout this trip through their discography, the members performed with an energy that echoed the appreciative words that lead singer Conor Murphy said throughout their time on stage. The amount of fun they appeared to have on stage made it easy to believe that this was indeed the “most fun they have had on tour.”

Well-crafted rhythms had the entire room bopping along throughout Now, Now’s set time. From the opening in 2012’s Wolf to the end of the night, the duo had the crowd hooked on every drum beat. Their stronghold on the crowd’s energy was complete display in their entire set time even during a brief intermission of sorts while they adjusted a defective microphone. As everyone encouraged lead singer Cacie Dalager to make a personal return to the drums after years of not playing. Despite this though, they picked up right where they left off and kept the hits coming with Yours and MJ following directly after this which come from a 2018 release of their own in Saved. The swagger with which they executed their songs was clearly a treat for fans.

With the Denver date of this tour serving as the last stop, emotions, as you might expect, were high from the performers. Both groups took to openly expressing their appreciation of their respective opportunities. With the fans reciprocating those sentiments by staying enthralled with both acts the entire night.
