Stephen Malkmus is going electronic

No, seriously. Stephen Malkmus is delivering an electronic in 2019.

There was talk of Malkmus having an electronic album being denied by Matador Records in 2018, but it looks like the longtime record label had a change of heart and decided to deliver “Groove Denied.”

Malkmus found new love with some 808s and auto-tune. There’s a lot of firsts here with the FIRST Malkmus solo album and the FIRST Malkmus electronic album. There’s a solid chance that the ex-Pavement leader listened to the shit out of some CAN and Kraftwerk albums ahead of the recording of “Groove Denied.” Look for the solo project to be released March 15 and to continue touring with the Jicks for a few months and a few solo dates.

Listen to the slow banger of a first introduction with “Viktor Borgia” and Jicks/Pavement fans are treated to Stephen Malkmus dancing in an empty club and stark red strobe lights.
