Pusha-T brought the sounds of “Daytona” to downtown Denver this week and C=T contributor Manuel Aragon was on hand to catch the hard flexing on the Summit Music Hall stage.

Pusha T brought his tour to Denver on Tuesday night. The three openers  —  OTIS, Bernard Jabs, and Phony Ppl were all good in their own, unique way  —  were not enough to adequately prepare the crowd for Pusha T. He opened his hour-long, energy packed set on Tuesday night with “If You Know You Know”, the lead-in from his latest album, Daytona. Daytona is one of the best albums of the year and possibly the best of the five albums that Kanye West released over a five-week period — King Push took a few opportunities to remind the audience that it should be the best album on all the year-end lists. Push’s live show took the songs to a whole new level; the drums cracked harder, the bass smacked, and Pusha’s rhymes were mesmerizing. His light show only added to the mix, creating the right atmosphere for “Santeria” and “Come Back Baby”.

Throughout the night he mixed it up, sprinkling in an old song like “Number on the Boards” and collaborations like his verse from Kids See Ghosts’ “Feel The Love” as he made his way through that and all of the material from Daytona. The crowd danced and rapped along with him, causing Pusha T to smile in appreciation of the audience. Near the end of his set, he took a minute to thank Denver for always supporting him and always showing up in full force for him since his days in the Clipse. Even though it was a Tuesday night, the Summit Music Hall was jam-packed like a Friday show. Only a rapper as good as Pusha T could bring out an audience like this on a weeknight.
