Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks are on to something special with their soon to be released album, “Sparkle Hard.” Fans of Stephen Malkmus are given a front row seat into the world of the longtime Portland denizen in different locations: tennis court, homestead and horse stables. In a not so shocking development, Malkmus’ tennis game is pretty decent with all signs indicating a strong serve game.
The level of intimacy provided by Jicks fan and video director Brook Linder is impressive with the candid all-access clip. We gain an incredible amount of insight in the short ten minutes below than fans enjoyed in 2002 Pavement documentary “Slow Century.” Many aspects of the sixteen-year-old release felt forced and too recent after the untimely band breakup with the post “Terror Twilight” video.
Look for “Sparkle Hard” to hit the streets via Matador on May 18 with a summer tour that will see the Jicks at the Gothic Theatre July 31.
