U.S. GIRLS ::: LARIMER LOUNGE ::: 03.21.18

2018 is the year of U.S. Girls. The band consisting of girls and boys alike led by Meghan Remy is perhaps one of the more exciting acts out right now that’s been on the grind for ten years. Some of us just started paying attention. It doesn’t hurt that the Canadian act is part of the famed record label, 4AD.

The ringleader, Meghan Remy, didn’t break character for the duration of the one hour set Wednesday night dressed in a mechanic onesie, only to undress into something clearly more comfortable. It’s easy to say that the lead vocalist is the epicenter of all things on stage, however, it was a group effort that had the Larimer Lounge popping off. In fact, there was a couple of times that some of the bandmates were almost muscled off of the modestly sized stage.

One of the real MVP’s of last night’s raucous performance easily had to have been the group saxophonist that created the cohesion needed to set the tone for the evening. I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find his name. On the last number of the night, “Time,” the whole group just put in all of their collective chips and jammed for what felt like one of those times at a jam show where one song takes twenty-five minutes, except way more enjoyable. On, “Mad As Hell,” Remy channeled her inner Debbie Harry spirit taking things back to the late ’70s heyday of CBGB’s. Between the extended riffage and disco burnout vibes, U.S. Girls owned Larimer last night.
