Future Islands ::: Fillmore Auditorium ::: 09.29.17

It was three years ago that Future Islands waltzed on Letterman and took a rabid fan base by storm. 2014 saw the release of “Singles;” an album that put Samuel T. Herring and the boys on the map of stardom. This wasn’t an overnight success story by any means. We’re talking about a disciplined group that started at DIY venues across the country that caught the public eye because of an insane frontman with insane dancing skills.

Herring and company are celebrating the release of their 2017 album, “The Far Field.” The effort is by far their most complete project from beginning to end that translated into part concert, part theatrical performance by the poignant lead vocalist and his rapid-fire dance steps.

4AD’s current flame exceptionally delivered on a perfect mixture of old and new material. Future Islands’ delivered on punchy deliveries on new fan favorites like “Ran” and a personal favorite, “Cave.” It was almost impossible not to stand amongst the crowd and not dance from side to side like Herring. Even raising a fist didn’t seem that far out of the ordinary.
