Alec Ounsworth by all accounts should be touring under a solo moniker much like many acts before that experienced an insurmountable amount of success in a short period of time that didn’t know how to make a second move. The east coast act of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah created the blueprint of how to promote an album in the age of the Interwebz. The roller coaster ride took tumultuous dips and appear to make another successful run. Ounsworth crafted a punchy new LP with the release of this year’s “the Tourist.”
The sold out Larimer Lounge bit hard on the sing speak from CYHSY. A renewed sense of swagger took over the well worn stage from an act that is experiencing a resurgence in artistic creativity. It would be easy for the guys to rely and rest on the laurels of a self titled album produced twelve years ago.
But they’re not. Ounsworth is visibly comfortable in his new role as an elder statesman of the music scene, and he’s fine with it. Who knew that Alec could cut a rug? The shockingly limber frontman managed to take his dance number to the front of the house with the front row. We’d love to see a little more of an electronic element to their music.
Alas, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is proof that there ARE second acts in life.
