We’re not one for hyperbole ’round these parts, but hot damn was last night good.It has been six years since I’ve seen Tame Impala. Specifically at Red Rocks, but the Aussies’ game is in another dimension. In that time, the blokes have delivered with three studio albums, of which all to critical acclaim.

Kevin Parker and company made the city of Morrison theirs for an evening, kicking off their shoes and rocking the fuck out. Tame Impala guitarist James Watson shredded, but it wasn’t about the tactical style that opened eyes. Somehow, the guys stumbled upon a hybrid of stoner R&B jams that have won fans over in their three album trajectory.

Last night was no different with the psych rockers continuing their support of “Currents.” When bands decidedly become too artsy, they have a tendency to take themselves serious; not the case with Parker and friends. They let loose with a flurry of confetti cannons that blanketed the iconic amphitheater.

Lead vocalist Kevin Parker teased fans with what feels like a pending departure with the slew of collaborations he has participated with, namely Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga. The new direction gives more credence to the R&B angle that the rockers have been biting on as of late.

Tame Impala displayed for one night that their ascent to becoming the biggest rock act in the world always goes through a sold out crowd at Red Rocks.
