Last week, the first blizzard of the Autumn 2009 season paralyzed the city of Denver. Schools, offices, stores, and concerts were canceled. Fortunately, for the cabin fever victims, Modeselektor made good with their performance and we sent C=T contributor Chuckie Martinez to take in the show.

After missing a much heralded Modeselektor set this summer at Beta, I got a chance to catch their show at the Bluebird Theatre. Modeselektor seemed to be right at home with our snowy climate.

Accompanied by a hypnotic VJ set that paired well with the beat and kept the ambiance beyond the colorful crowd interesting. Modeselektor came through and kept the sound flawless throughout the whole show. The duo has come along way since their days back in Berlin’s underground debauch. It’s no wonder why they influence the multitudes of groups that they do today. They can be as raw as Mobb Deep one minute and with crescendos that fall as gentle as a orchestra the next. This is a powerful advantage and much appreciated by the people moving to it. Some say DJ shows are boring. In the case of Modeselektor, a blur of electronic beeping instruments combined with the tweaking of knobs adds up to an undoubtedly well-conveyed sound, well-received by it’s loyal followers.
