I missed out on Ladyhawk, and I would soon live to regret it. I’m sure their alcohol drenched spectacle was infused with tons of whiskey, and guitar licks for miles. Alas, making their second Denver debut, the other was the night before at an unannounced, at least to the public, Rhinoceropolis show that probably killed. Much like last night. Some firsts occurred for me last night. I witnessed a show that lasted more than one hour and it an involved an encore that paid homage to the Rolling Stones as an encore. It’s very rare that you get an encore at Hi-Dive and a set lasting more than one hour. Perhaps, one of the most underrated albums and groups from Canada is getting some well deserved attention. I was fortunate to catch their last show on the tour, and I was unable to purchase the t-shirt because some guy bought the last one that they had. The explosive show last night had shades of improvisational skills and I know Joe Strummer is smiling somewhere up there. The night ended with a mind-blowing version of Shine a Light and the only let down of the evening was that they didn’t play the epic Do What You Can Do. Sigh. But one of the encores of the evening had Ladyhawk + Constantines doing their best Mick Jagger covering vintage Rolling Stones.
