MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF SOUND

The hype machine is running on all cylinders behind Camilo Lara (aka MIS). The New York Times wrote an extensive feature story on him and the LA Times said he lit it up at Coachella this past weekend. Camilo has been extremely busy with his newest release, Soy Sauce, and the forthcoming soundtrack to the Gael Garcia & Diego Luna movie, Rudo y Cursi, where he co-produces the soundtrack, more on that on a later date. I’m still waiting for a Denver date for MIS (RIYL-Nortec, Kinky). The newest album is guaranteed to make your next carne asada a hit!

It’s easy to get caught up with the day to day problems that we endure, from grocery shopping, bills, life, etc. and when you see movies like the one above, it tends to put things into check.  Sin Nombre portrays Sayra, (Paulina Gaitan)  a teenage girl from Guatemala that has decided to leave her roots behind in search of a brighter future that exists on the other side of the Mexican border. A brighter future where her father’s family exists in New Jersey. Sayra’s father has come back to Guatemala for his daughter. The two and uncle included trek from Central America through Mexico visa vie raft, train, foot, and car. Their path’s cross with the most notorious savage gang around, the Mara Salvatrucha, when the gang decides to hold up a train full of immigrants trying to get through Mexico en route to Tejas. The gang fights other gangs to keep off of each others turf. El Capser (Edgar Flores), MS-13 gang member, has his love taken away from him in a sick twisted fate of reality when a boss decides to end the life of his secret girlfriend. I won’t ruin the rest, but the movie isn’t for the kiddies, nor the faint at heart, there are some graphic scenes of violence and mutilation. In more Gael Garcia news, he produces the movies and the feature well at Sundance.

Gael Garcia Bernal & Diego Luna are two Mexican actors that have hit it pretty big w/movie audiences around the world with movies like Babel, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Amores Perros. The two have come together again to make a movie titled, Rudo y Cursi,  which roughly translates to rough and tasteless. The clips are hysterical and you can see the official trailer here and a bonus clip below for those of you that speak Español. The soundtrack is looking very good as well, with notables such as Juana Molina, Nortec, Saul Hernandez (Jaguares), and several others.
