No Music Blogging in New Zealand

Photobucket

Looks like New Zealand has put an end to music blogging in their country. This is where Big Brother starts watching your every move. This behavior is unacceptable and hopefully done away with very soon. Sign the petition to stop this foolishness here. You can read more about the news here.

Here’s what was sent to me:

Remember New Zealand, that tiny country that gave everyone Flight of the Conchords, Liam Finn, Ladyhawke, Crowded House etc etc? Well they’ve just passed a law that bans music blogging.

Essentially, the law requires ISPs to disconnect anyone ‘suspected’ of downloading something illegally. Music blogs fit under this definition. There will be no trials or proof, all they need is ‘suspicion’.

Daft Punk vs. Adam Freeland – “Aer OBAMA”

Obama Hope Gallery Denver, CO 08.26.08

I don’t have to tell you that this is a historic day. I will be toiling away at the cubicle farm while most of the action goes on, but I am happy to have been part of the process and the good this is that there’s only one way to go from here.

I wish I was going to D.C. this weekend, this show looks amazing!

Obama song featuring Centro-Matic’s Will Johnson unveiled in DC for inauguration

Another chapter in Christian Kiefer’s Of Great and Mortal Men: 43 Songs for 43 U.S. Presidencies unfolds, as the promised “free 44th song” for President-elect Obama becomes available this Friday. “Someone to Wake,” penned by Kiefer and featuring Centro-Matic vocalist Will Johnson, is a retrospective of eight years of national and international turmoil, positioning Obama as a voice of the future.

“It was the only song that did not have the benefit of an actual Presidency to comment upon,” Kiefer notes. “Still, the sea change in positive thinking is a remarkable contrast to the previous administration. That’s songworthy material.”

The song will be unveiled live January 17th at Washington, DC’s Sixth and I Historic Synagogue, during an evening devoted to the project that features Kiefer’s collaborators Jefferson Pitcher and J. Matthew Gerken, as well as guests Nellie McKay, Tim Fite, These United States, Jukebox the Ghost, Laura Burhenn, Denison Witmer, Reid Maclean, Silver Darling, Joe Pug, and many more.

A New Day Has Come

Last night over beers, one of my friends was telling me about McCain’s request to be put in for one more mission. I’m kind of scared that he wouldn’t have made it through a quarter of the mission before bowing out and having Palin come in for her evil reign. It is indeed a memorable time in this country and I am extremely proud to be able and tell my future children that I participated in this historic election. I was extremely lucky to go to his acceptance speech for the DNC here in Denver and I couldn’t help but get kind of choked up when driving home tonight listening to his celebratory speech on the radio. Not to get all red, white, and blue, but I hope to see the US turn the corner and create a new positive direction for future generations. Things are looking bleak everywhere. Trust me, I talk to people from coast to coast on a daily basis, and for people that know me, you know what I’m talking about. I hear tons of sob stories everyday about foreclosures, repossessions, sickness, and layoffs. I don’t think this country could handle another four years of absent minded leadership and for this, I am happy the US public has spoken with such a thunderous response.

Ok, so maybe he only played two songs, but Ben Harper’s heart was definitely in the right place with the support that he lent to the Obama rally this weekend. The performance was held on the eve of an Obama appearance to be held in the same park. I could be totally wrong, but I do believe that both songs are new ones that he may have written for the campaing. Regardless, the two songs spoke volumes despite the soft vocals and acoustic guitar.
