Zizek Tour

The funny thing is that I hated Cumbia when I was growing up. Loathed it. These beats make it into something more than palatable.

Cloud Cult

Feel Good Ghost (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) is the name of the new album from Cloud Cult to be released April 8th via Rebel which can be purchased here. I’ve been eagerly anticipating new material from the group. I had no opinion of them till I caught the most prolific show of their’s at Monolith Music Festival. Needless to say, I’ve been hooked ever since. They will also be playing here in Denver, and most importantly, they will also be playing SXSW.The album cover looks like they just had tea w/Alice in Wonderland….

Moby

Moby’s going back to his roots. Most of you have seen the video already. Yeah , it’s a bit creepy, but so is Moby. Most interesting of all, I read somewhere that he’s going to be playing the Vice Party Saturday Night or Friday Night. WTF?! Maybe it’s just a DJ set…. His album Last Night will be released April 1st and you can buy it here.

Chikita Violenta Interview
The piece in
Fader about upcoming acts from Mexico City opened up my eyes. I had my opinion about groups from Mexico not really meaning anything or doing anything. I was sure that music was dead south of the border. I was proven wrong and I was delighted by my brush with Chikita Violenta. I had the recent pleasure of catching up with Andres (el guero)from the group for an interview.

5 Albums that you can’t live without?

Siamese Dream – Smashing Pumpkins
My Bloody Valentine – Loveless
The Notwist – Neon Golden
Broken Social Scene – You Forgot It In People Pavement – Wowee Zowee

What inspires you? A good album. A good riff. A good drum beat. Mezcal. Cigarrettes. The ladies. Violent ladies.

Do you have plans of doing a US tour, besides SXSW? Nothing concrete. We have 5 confirmed gigs at SXSW. Hopefully we could do a West Coast tour this Summer.

Are you guys doing any parties besides a proper showcase? Well, we have our showcase, and several parties. Of the parites, we have the Fader party and the digital music distributors IODA Party.

Where does your name come from? One of our friends gave us the name. It seemed to be influenced by the name of Blonde Redhead’s album, La Mia Vita Violenta.

Best place to play in Mexico City and why? Our favorites are el Lunarion, El Vive Cuervo Salon (Salon 21), el Pasaguero, el Foro Alicia.

Why did you guys seek out Broken Social Scene?
We loved the way Dave Newfeld produces albums and we felt that his style of produce mixed well with our style of music.

How eccentric is Kevin Drew?

Kevin Drew is a great guy. He has a huge heart, great sense of humor, talented, and just like any other great personality, he has his eccentricities. We have built a great friendship with him.

And now the bonus question-

Would Pancho Villa have been Pancho Villa without Emiliano Zapata?

Do you think tacos would be tacos with its salsa?

Ahora en Espanol!

5 albums sin los cuales no puedes vivir?
Siamese Dream – Smashing Pumpkins
My Bloody Valentine – Loveless
The Notwist – Neon Golden
Broken Social Scene – You Forgot It In People
Pavement – Wowee Zowee
Qué los inspira?
Un buen disco. Un buen riff. Un buen sonido en la batería. El mezcal. Un cigarrillo. Chiquitas. Violentas.

GOYA!!!!

Constantines

Reviews are in about these guys already. Grandkids to the Boss. Hmm….well, maybe the Constantines should have been the back up band to Joe Strummer and the Constantines instead of the Mescaleros. It doesn’t hurt that lead singer Bryan Webb kinds of sounds like Joe Strummer. The new album is everything that their previous album attempted to achieve. THeir seems to be more control in the songwriting and the group has really put it together as a whole. The album is rollicking from beginning to end and their brand of art-punk does the Arts & Crafts label proud. The album Kensington Heights will be released April 15th. They will also be participating in some showcases and one that I know of for sure, which is going to be AWESOME!!!!!
